Remember to use what you need and don’t overdo it. There are a variety of formatting functions you can use in R. Enter “theme” in the search bar and a list of formatting functions will appear. If you want to learn about other formatting functions that you can use in your chart, you can go to the Help section in RStudio. You can make the line thicker or thinner, or the text bigger or smaller. You can also format the line and text of the x- and y-axis. If you want to remove the legend in your chart, set the legend.position function to ‘none’. This allows you with the flexibility to place your chart anywhere in your report. The panel.background and plot.background are removed to make the scatter chart transparent. If you want to remove a gridline, use the element_blank( ) function. The ( ) and ( ) allow you to edit the linetype and colour of the chart’s gridlines. And within this function, you can add in other arguments to customize. Use the theme( ) function to format the scatter plot in the R Script editor. Format The Appearance Of The R Scatter PlotĪfter you’ve created the basic form of your scatter plot, the next step is to customize its theme and appearance. Moreover, since the chart automatically places labels on the axes, you can remove them by using the labs( ) function. When you run the R code, the results will now appear logarithmically. In this case, the y-axis is transformed into a log scale while the x-axis remains the same. You can change the scale of the x- and y-axis using the scale_x_continuous( ) and scale_y_continuous( ) functions. The smooth line now shows the trend of the data at a 95% confidence interval. When you run the R script, the scatter plot will look like this. To add a smooth line, use the geom_smooth( ) function. A smooth line is a line that’s fitted to the data to help you explore the potential relationships between two variables. In this next step, you’ll learn how to add a smooth line to the chart. Notice that you get bigger and darker-colored circles when their equivalent hourly rate value is higher. When you run the code, you’ll get this scatter plot in Power BI. You can further make formatting changes to your scatter plot by using a variety of functions, such as “color” or “shape.” If you want to apply a dynamic look to your chart, you can set the color and point size to a specific value as seen in the example. Then, use the geom_point( ) function to show the points on the chart. In this case, it’s duration hour and earnings, respectively. To specify the dataset, you need to use the aes( ) argument and then specify your x- and y-axis. In this case, a pipe operator is used instead of a filter function. You need to first specify the dataset that will be used in the chart hence, the database %>% command. Next, use the ggplot( ) function to create a scatter chart. You can continue to build the R code there. Open the R Script editor and paste the code. Once done, you need to use the library( ) function to load them into the R environment.Ĭopy the library R codes and go to Power BI. If you don’t have them installed, use the install.packages( ) function. To start, you need to have three packages installed in your RStudio program, the tidyverse, ggthemes, and ggpubr. Create The Basic Scatter Plot In The R Script Visual The dataset used in this example is a table containing the Client name, Duration, Earnings, and Hourly Rate. The third and fourth steps are mainly focused on themes and formatting changes you can apply to the scatter plot. Then, you’ll apply a smooth line to show the trend of the data in the plot. You’ll first learn how to create a basic scatter plot. This discussion is broken down into four steps. And by the end of this tutorial, you’ll be able to create an R scatter plot that looks like this: Adding this visual to your Power BI reports will add more insight to the data you’re presenting. Scatter plots are useful tools for identifying patterns and trends in the data. It’s a graph where each data point is represented by a dot, and the position of the dot on the horizontal and vertical axes corresponds to the values of the two variables. Adjust The Color And Range Of The Data PointsĪ scatter plot is a type of data visualization that’s used to display the relationship between two continuous variables.Format The Appearance Of The R Scatter Plot.Create The Basic Scatter Plot In The R Script Visual.

Reveal the hidden cards in your tableau whenever possible And since you can only move around runs of cards, if there is a mismatched card, you’ll have to find a place to put that mismatched card before you can move the run somewhere else. It can be easy to lose track of a mismatched card once you start filling rows with your stock deck. You can only move cards that are stacked sequentially So make sure you do everything you can before making things more complicated. When you draw cards from your deck, it adds one to the bottom of every column, making it more challenging to build runs of cards. Before using your stock deck, try to make all the moves you can with the cards in the tableau. In Spider Solitaire, some cards start in your tableau (the cards that are in columns) and the rest are in the stock deck (the cards at the bottom right hand of the board). Hmm, most likely you won`t be able to do this. So that means that my Eneloop batteries can`t be charged 2100 times? It really depends on how you charge them, and how much you discharge them and at what current. I also believe that they can be charged more than 2100 times. This includes a predefined amount of current for charging and discharging, an ambient temperature of X degrees, and a certain amount of rest within their amount of charge and discharge cycles. I believe they can be charged for hundreds of times, but under certain conditions. How many times can Eneloop rechargeable batteries be recharged? In real life, the mAh depends on a few more factors, like the discharge current that is being used, the age of the battery (how much it is used), and the (ambient) temperature. This is a very basic way of looking at it. When you continue throwing water into it, it will still only be 1 gallon of water inside the jug. When you empty the jug, only 1 gallon of water would come out. Fill the jug with 1 gallon of water and it`s full. This is the problem! A 1900mAh battery can only hold 1900 mAh even if you put 2500mA into it. This would imply that you do 25*100mA which would result in 2500mAh. Now you extend the charge time to a total of 25 hours. This is also written on a standard Eneloop, so the 1900mAh of capacity is now inside the battery. When you charge the battery for 19 hours you will have 1900mAh charged. A battery charger uses a charge current of 100mA. Isn`t that the same? Why can`t you use that with charging instead of discharging? So 19 hours of discharge at 100 mA equals 1900 mAh. The battery will take 19 hours to discharge the battery from 1900 till empty. To simplify it, you take a battery with 1900mAh and a device (let`s take a flashlight for example) that uses a low current of 100mA. This is a simplified way of looking at it, but not really the way mAh actually works. Let`s take a standard Eneloop with a capacity of 1900mAh. When you have a charger that uses a charge current of 100mA, the battery will be fully charged in 19 hours. What is the difference between mA and mAh? And how do they work? A regular white Eneloop AA has a capacity of 1900mAh. This is the total capacity the battery can contain. On every Eneloop there is a mAh number written. This refers to the amount of energy (capacity/charge) that a battery contains. Eneloop chargers generally charge between 1mA depending on the charger. mA is also used for the discharge current. The higher the mA the faster Eneloop batteries will charge. MA is the unit (mili Ampere) used for the charging current, which you can compare to “the speed of charging”. My quote for max cycle life: “ It`s better to stop the charge prematurely using a high charge current than to overcharge with a low charge current.” These 2 checks can be missed when the batteries are charged at a low current! Not every charger terminates at a certain Voltage like the Powerex MH-C9000. At a higher charge rate, it is easier for the charger to detect a Voltage drop and Temperature increase and therefore know when to stop charging. Charging at a slow current can actually be more problematic when the charger can not detect whether a battery is full. It is not mainly about the charge current but when the charge stops. Please look at the Tests Page for the 5000 cycles test. This is not true just by itself! They put their Eneloop Pros in a time-based charger and think they are treating their batteries nicely. They think that slow charging will result in longer cycle life. I think this is a very common mistake people make. Is slow charging better than fast charging for Eneloops? There is also a channel of melt going upward through the crust that feeds the volcano, the new research shows. The image shows a hot region that extends to at least 100 kilometers below Erebus. The picture below Erebus is “very glorious.” Areas with lower electrical resistivity indicate the material is hot and, to some extent, melted. DGFZ = Discovery Graben fault zone EFZ = Erebus fault zone. Yellow and red represent unusually low resistivity below Erebus (10 and 5 ohm meters, respectively). Mount Erebus is fed by a column of hotter rock extending vertically from at least 100 kilometers deep (yellow) and melted magma that extends up through the crust (red). Solar weather also produces waves that propagate through Earth.Ĭaptured by custom “voltmeters” on the surface and fed into a modeling algorithm, the waves can create a 3D picture of the electrical resistivity of material below, “kind of like a CT scan of the human body,” said Wannamaker. “A lightning bolt is an impulsive antenna, if you will, and electromagnetic waves ripple out from that into your survey area,” said Wannamaker. “Hats off to Graham for the energy and drive to cover the entire island,” said Wannamaker.Īt each site, they’d recorded the natural electromagnetic waves that travel through Earth from the Sun and distant lightning bolts. They visited 129 sites on Erebus and Ross Island, taking exhaustive measurements. So Hill, Wannamaker, and their colleagues took a different approach: magnetotelluric data.ĭuring summers between 20, the team visited Erebus via helicopter. But Erebus has very few crustal-scale earthquakes, hamstringing the method to shallow depths. Scientists use seismic waves traveling through Earth to ascertain the material below. Past studies into Erebus relied on seismic data to probe its inner workings. Although its name ultimately harkens to Greek mythology’s personification of darkness, Captain James Ross named the volcano after one of his ships, the HMS Erebus, in 1841. Mount Erebus overlooks McMurdo Station, and nearby sits the hut built by legendary polar explorer Ernest Shackleton and his men before they summited Erebus in 1908. The snow-covered Mount Erebus is the southernmost active volcano on Earth and shares Antarctica’s Ross Island with three other volcanoes, all dormant. Credit: Robert Falcon Scott/ Wikimedia, Public Domain “This is the first great image of one,” said geophysicist Phil Wannamaker at the University of Utah, who participated in the work.Įrebus has long been familiar to polar explorers-this photo was taken by Robert Falcon Scott on his ill-fated expedition to the South Pole. “If we can also get an idea of where the magmatic system is, you can better understand the monitoring data when these systems enter periods of unrest,” said lead scientist and geophysicist Graham Hill at the Institute of Geophysics at the Czech Academy of Sciences. This dryness allows magma to travel much closer to the surface than water (H 2O)-rich volcanoes that stall out at about 5 kilometers below the surface.ĬO 2-rich volcanic systems are less well understood than the more common H 2O-rich arc volcanoes. Instead, it’s rich in carbon dioxide (CO 2). Unlike arc volcanoes such as the Cascades in western North America, Erebus has very little water in its magma. Now, research has revealed the plumbing underneath Mount Erebus that keeps the lake full.ĭata taken by measuring natural electromagnetic waves traveling through Earth revealed the volcano’s magmatic system brings lava much closer to the surface than subduction arc volcanoes. The lake occasionally blasts out lava bombs from the summit crater of Mount Erebus, 3,794 meters high. One of Antarctica’s only active volcanoes is home to one of the few long-lasting lava lakes on Earth. Photos Workbench, a new Mac app from longtime developer Houdah Software, is designed to complement Photos, adding features that help you organize, rate, and compare your photos in ways that are quicker and more efficient than performing those tasks in Photos itself. But that’s not to say that Photos has all the features-particularly when it comes to organizational workflows-that you want. Photos may not seem like one of Apple’s marquee apps, but it’s one reason to switch to a Mac. As someone who uses Macs and Windows PCs equally, I am agog at how primitive Microsoft’s Photos app is, by comparison. This practice is slowly dissolving, however, as it has been shown that magnesium sulfate causes birth defects at high doses ( 2). Magnesium sulfate has also been used to delay labor by inhibiting uterine contractions in pregnant women ( 1). Why would Dasani add a drying agent to a product that is supposed to quench your thirst? Perhaps it is for the mere fact that you’ll still feel parched after drinking it, encouraging you to buy another one. Anhydrous magnesium sulfate on its own is a drying agent, which could explain the terrible dry mouth that I (and other people) experience after drinking Dasani. It is a FDA Pregnancy Category D teratogen, drying agent, and laxative. Magnesium sulfate is essential epsom salts or bath salts. I would understand it better if the water was from a spring, and loaded with minerals my body could use, but bottling tap water is just ripping people off, in my opinion. It is bad for the environment (why would I buy bottled tap water, when I could just re-fill my own reusable stainless steel bottle with water?). Their tap water is filtered via reverse osmosis, however, paying for tap water is simply outrageous. A substance free to most privileged people on the planet. Ingredient Number 1: Tap Waterĭasani, a company owned by Coca-Cola, bottles tap water. The ingredients that are commonly added to Dasani bottled water (and other bottled water companies) are magnesium sulfate, potassium chloride, and salt (not to mention their source of water comes straight from the tap – highly worth the three dollars, right? Note sarcasm). I don’t know about you, but I don’t even want the smallest quantity of something entering my body that is a known toxin. The chemicals they add are in small quantities, however, anything that enters your body shouldn’t be known to cause birth defects, and even death – which these chemicals are known to cause at high levels. The additives that bottled water companies stick in their water are to “enhance the flavour,” however, I don’t see how this is enhancing the flavour, considering these bottled waters contain additives that technically make them more bitter than delicious. Kirkland Signature water lists several ingredients added “for taste,” and so does Essentia, Aquafina, Dannon, Nestlé PureLife, and Smartwater. Not only does Dasani add ingredients to their water, many other water companies do too. Maybe it’s just my body, or maybe it’s the ingredients that are added in the water, but I know for one that my body cannot stand it (I’m a sensitive person to boot). I don’t know about you, but every time I drank a Dasani in the past, my mouth would become terribly dry (after the fact), and my stomach would cramp up. Minerals and other additives are thrown into the mix to “purify” or “enhance” the water, some of which are known to cause nasty side effects. Most people (even those who are health-conscious) don’t think twice before grabbing a bottle of water to quench their thirst – however, if you take a close look at the ingredient list on the back, you’ll be shocked to find that there is more than just water in there. Dasani is a popular water bottle brand that sells plain bottled water, as well as sparkling water and flavoured water. |
